It’s always a humbling privilege when people approach me to seek insight and guidance. It can also be an immense burden when someone seeks your counsel in addressing something significant and personal to them. The human within wants to assist and support which can often lead you to problem solving for them as opposed to being a guide or mirror.
I’m reminded that a difference between men and women is often that men are ready to jump in and fix something where women sometimes simply want to be heard. I’ve seen this play out in my life many times where my naturally tendency is to advise and lay out a plan to address the issue. Instead what I find out is it was empathy that was being asked for, not answers. The key for me to remember is to offer my presence not answers.
As a professional reader, it seems that every week at least one person comes to me asking for a simple yes/no answer or to tell them what they need to do. Falling into this trap is neither good for them or myself. As a reader/guide, when you move into being the source of answers, you not only rob the other person of their own process, you open yourself to becoming the owner of the outcome. You should avoid simply answering their question even when your intuition is screaming in your ear what the person should do or the decision they should make.
What I’ve learned after years of reading is that while my intuition is very strong and often clear, if I simply blurt out the answer to their question, the client walks away with an answer that really isn’t their own. This is a dangerous place to be because you rarely know the entire situation. Another thing that happens frequently is that a person may ask for an answer but really all they want is your confirmation (or permission) to do what they had already decided. In other cases, I have experienced readers who simply want ‘happy’ clients and will tell them what they believe the client wants to hear rather than what they may need to consider.
My own code of conduct calls me to be an impartial resource, a channel through which Spirit may communicate. As such, it calls me to be truthful in what I see in the cards and what is coming forward to me. I am asked to communicate without judgment and to remain open throughout the entire process. Not a simple task for those of us who are strong empaths who read and absorb energy quickly and literally feel into what the client is experiencing. Yet this is the only effective way to be a reader. I would much rather be authentic and true to Spirit than to have ‘happy’ clients who remain in upset or continue to feel miserable in their situation. This is why I always ask Spirit, the Angels, and my Guides to bring through me that which is in the client’s highest good.
I’ve had readings where my first impression was that the client was looking for a ‘happy answer’ such as that a relationship will turn out well or a particular choice is a good one. Yet what came forward was quite different and was challenging the client to look at a situation more critically or consider options that may have appeared less favorable. But instead of giving into that impression, I simply shared what was coming forward through the cards and my intuition. The most affirming thing often is that the client is grateful for the insights and the challenge – it was truly in their higher good despite it not necessarily being what I may have judged was the better outcome.
So if you come to me for a reading or session, know this – you will be guided through the inspiration of Spirit and I will endeavor to stay out of the way of your own journey and process. I am there to offer insight and encourage you to reflect on how that insight affects you. I will remain in inquiry and guide you by asking you to step into your higher self. After all, it is your highest good that matters most.
