We’ve all experienced the fury of an approaching storm. The winds can blow ferociously whipping objects around and torrential rains batter everything in sight. Sometimes storms come with destructive hail and the winds splinter trees. The sheer strength of a strong storm is both frightening and awe-inspiring. For me, the last week has felt much the same.
As Mercury entered retrograde and the cosmos began lining up for the eclipse, it felt at times as if a huge storm was building on the horizon and heading my direction. There was a tremendous amount of energy around me. Sometimes it was disorienting and confusing. Other times, the anticipation of the approaching clouds brought a sense of reverence and respect for the power about to be unleashed.
But like a powerful storm, it has its moment then begins to drift away as the skies begin to clear. That moment was the eclipse and as I woke up this morning to clear skies, I was reminded that the storms in our life serve an important function. Sometimes we need the powerful forces of nature to clear the air and make space for the bright, fresh, rejuvenating beauty that follows.
I’m still reflecting on the eclipse and the lessons it brought. Often in the wake of a powerful storm, we have cleanup to attend to. There are broken things to pick up, leaves to be swept, and things to put back in place. Like a storm that has now passed, the aftermath of the eclipse is a time to do some cleaning. Looking to the past serves no real purpose. In the wake of a powerful storm, all we can do is assess the impact and get to work. It’s a time to toss away what is broken, replace things, and to reset what may have been upended. Breathe in the freshness of the clearing air and the sweetness drifting on the breeze. Like the dawn after the storm, it brings a sense of hope and renewed commitment and a fresh start.
For me, the build-up to the eclipse was a time for deep introspection. The transits we experienced beginning with Mercury encouraged me to reexamine priorities, renew commitments, and establish new plans. As the storm began to unleash itself in the days before the grand finale, I was challenged to question old patterns, secure things I truly cared about, and then sit quietly to ride out the storm. The cleanup now begins under a clear blue sky. The work at times may be back-breaking and difficult, but the results will make it all worthwhile.
From this eclipse, reflect upon the things that were broken and should now be tossed away. Think about aspects of your life that are in need of being reset into place. Replace what is broken with strong commitments and determination to start anew. Remember that storms come and go, but they most assuredly will come again. Use this time to bask in the afterglow of this grand celestial event while preparing for future storms that will surely come.
